Learning 2.0

It has been my experience that this has really been a team effort. My co-workers have been wonderful and supportive. Many of the tasks required some serching around, the how to may not have been as apparent to those of us who are not as techie. I enjoyed the kearning experience. I found may useful items. I am especially greatful for the fact that I have been exposed to these tools and will be better able to communicate with my customers if they begin talking about them. Thank you.

Overdrive

I would enjoy being able to download books from overdrive. Our system has been a member of this consortium for over a year and I look forward to the opportunity. Some items are available through overdrive first.

Podcasts

I had some trouble linking together with the actual video part of this. I also discovered as with anything we do on the web, we must be ware of some of the video content which we would not want to bring up even by accident in the library.

We Were Kings - Tribute To The Katrina Dolphins

This is a touching video created by a thirteen year old girl who saw the impact of the Huricane on the locale sea life.

Upcoming events

I tried Yahoo's upcoming events, though it had first palce on the short list, I was not able to locate the wine festival or other events in Carroll County nor at the Farm Museum

This is a test. It is only a test. In the event of an emergency you will be directed where to tune for emergency information. I can remember when man walked on the moon. It happened when I was just a child. We watched the rports on a black and white TV screen. It was not high def, no flat screen, no surround sound. It is really amazing that technology has come so far so fast.

Sandbox

I found it easy to figure out how to add my blog to this site.

Twins

Wikis are an interesting topic, as we have soome of them in use within our own system. I was surprised to learn that they could be so diverse and so colorful. Ours seemed a little plain compared to the ones I looked at as part of Learning 2.0. I looked at the book lovers wiki and checked some of the staff reviews. I found the coment on the Lori Lansen book interesting. I had to look up the meaning of craniopagus twins. Thinking that it may mean joined at the head, I found that it was in fact that. I also found that there are different names for different types of conjoined twins.
Wikis can be used to share a wealth of information. Files can be made available. Training can be presented on a wiki. Team communications to a larger group or system can be streamlined using a wiki. I do not feel it is more effective for team communication than a group email, however it does have more applications. The book reviews were fun.

Future of Libraries

According to "Away from the "icebergs" if libraries hold to their current course they may be sunk like the Titanic. Libraries must realize the changes which are taking place and be prepared to give up some of what they have held dear for so long (print collection) and educate the staff to be able to educate the customers. This last phase means hiring and training more staff to be technologically able to work with new material on the web. Also, increase the availability of staff to patrons, be there for the customers. Also, make getting to the information easy (short cuts).
Last but not least libraries must abandon the idea that everyone will darken their dooor when they need something. Many things are avilable on the web, by providing remote access to online resources libraies need to branch out to stay current.
I see a great deal of truth in all of the staements made. I do however see many positive trends in srevices offered by libraries now.

Technorati

Unfortunately I was unable to play the video to this Weblog. It sounded from what I read that they had made some recent changes to improve the way the blogs were counted and evaluated. This service serches claimed blogs to include them in searches for information. Blogs are rated depending upon accuracy and number of hits. They project a huge increase in blogs over the next five months.

del.icio.us

It is really amazing how quickly things become important to us. This is a system of tagging sites which we are considering using to replace bookmarking sites on individual computers. It makes the information so much more easily available.

Garden Tubs

Exploring rollyo was interesting. I feel sure it would be very useful when exploring research of a similar topic.

Library Thing

I found the features of Library Thing to be very interesting and was interested in the suggestion feature. It did seem to pull up some very unusual associations.
